A Chinese Odyssey I - Pandora's Box [1995]



Pandora's Box

The film begins with a prologue in which the Monkey King is punished by the Bodhisattva Kuan-yin for attempting to betray his master, the Longevity Monk, whom he found too annoying. The Bodhisattva Kuan-yin stops him and is about to imprison him forever; Tripitaka, however, says he is partly responsible for Monkey’s actions, and sacrifices himself in order to give Monkey a chance for redemption. Monkey is imprisoned for 500 years.

The main part of the film opens 500 years later, when Monkey has been reincarnated as Joker (Stephen Chow), the leader of a group of bandits, who does not know he is Monkey. Soon, Joker’s band of outlaws starts being attacked by a demon who looks like a beautiful woman but whose true form is a spider; she claims to be looking for a man with 3 birthmarks on his feet. The spider woman’s sister, Pak Jingjing (Karen Mok), who looks like a beautiful woman but whose true form is a ghostly demon, arrives and reveals that their plan is to capture the Longevity Monk and eat him to gain immortality. Joker, however, falls in love with Jingjing, who discovers that he is the reincarnation of Monkey, but Joker doesn’t believe her; an immortal called Grandpa Buddha arrives and explain to Joker what the demons are planning.

The group is later attacked by a powerful demon named King Bull, who is also looking for the Longevity Monk; Joker and his second-in-command flee with Jingjing and the spider woman to Waterfall Cave. When Jingjing refuses to kill Joker, she and her sister begin fighting, and ultimately she and Joker flee the cave while the spider woman reluctantly becomes impregnated by Joker's second-in-command. Jingjing was poisoned by her sister and loses consciousness however, Joker soon goes back to the cave, without telling her, to seek medicine. The spider woman imprisons him there again, and in the meantime, Jingjing is captured by King Bull who removes the poison from her body. While Joker is in the cave, he finds a magical item called Pandora’s Box, which has the power to send a person back in time only during a full moon. He also has a vision in which Kuan-yin tells him he is Monkey, and he will become Monkey for real once he meets an immortal who will give him three birthmarks on his feet. King Bull has Jingjing lead him to the cave, where Jingjing kills herself because she believes Joker has abandoned her to conceive a child with her sister. Joker finds her body and then uses Pandora’s Box multiple times to go back in time and attempt to save Jingjing. After finally being able to go far enough back in time to stop her from committing suicide Joker is separated from Jing Jing and attempts to use Pandora's Box once more but ends up accidentally going back in time 500 years and encountering a beautiful immortal named Zixia (Athena Chu), who confiscates Pandora's Box and puts three marks on his feet to mark him as her servant. He sees his reflection in the magic mirror that Grandpa Buddha had given him, and sees that although he still looks like Joker, he has actually become the Monkey King.

Now back in the days of the original journey to the west, Joker eventually finds the Longevity Monk and his fellow disciples Pigsy and Sandy, who are earlier incarnations of some of Joker’s bandit comrades. Joker does not want to accept his fate as Monkey King, but rather just seeks a way to reclaim Pandora’s box and get back to his own time and find Jingjing. Zixia, however, quickly falls in love with him. Zixia and the Longevity Monk are eventually captured by King Bull, who wants to take Zixia as a concubine. Pigsy and Sandy try to rescue Longevity Monk but Longevity Monk refuses to leave as Joker is still not accepting his identity as Monkey King. Longevity Monk tries to persuade him to rejoin the group by singing a parody of Only You but fails. Joker then goes on to look for Zixia but finds her stabbed in the room. They then try to make a run from the King Bull.

In the battle which ensues, Joker falls off a cliff and ends up back at Waterfall Cave, where he meets an older incarnation of Grandpa Buddha (who in this lifetime is a bandit) and finds Jingjing, who at this point knows nothing of the affair that she and Joker have in the future. Jingjing agrees to marry Joker, but eventually finds out he has actually fallen in love with Zixia. Jingjing leaves, and leaves Joker a note saying that he should save Zixia from King Bull. Before he can go, however, Jingjing’s sister (the spider woman) comes to Waterfall Cave and kills everybody there, including Joker

Joker, now dead, appears before Kuan-yin and accepts that he must become the Monkey King. He then becomes the true Monkey King, gains the powers of Monkey King (and puts on his head a magical fillet, which will shrink if he feels any human desire), and returns to the world, hurrying to King Bull’s wedding ceremony to save Zixia. Since he is now the Monkey King and must relinquish all human desire, including love, he tells Zixia that he is not Joker, and he pretends to scorn her.

Monkey is clearly more powerful than King Bull and holds the upper hand in the battle, but then King Bulls decides to try to destroy the entire city by sending it to the sun using the magical fan; Monkey flies to the airborne city to keep it away from the sun. As he leaves, Zixia's hand bracelets fall out of his sash, showing Zixia that the Monkey King truly is Joker. She shows Monkey this as her proof, distracting Monkey and leaving him vulnerable. King Bull attacks from behind, but Zixia jumps in front of his weapon and sacrifices herself to save Monkey King, whom she now knows is Joker. Monkey tries to save Zixia, but is too late and as she dies he realizes that he loves her and the fillet on his head begins to shrink, causing him great pain. Furious, he kills King Bull, then escapes with his master and fellow disciples via the Pandora's Box.

Ultimately, Monkey, the Longevity Monk, Pigsy, and Sandy all escape. Monkey King wakes up in a cave which looks so familiar to him. He asks Pigsy about what happened and gets the answer that there was a storm last night and Monkey took everybody to this place for shelter. It turns out everything happened to him before was overwritten by his action earlier. The Longevity Monk and his entourage decide to keep going. On their way, the group encounters the incarnations of Joker and Zixia who have been standing on a wall for days without talking, apparently because of some argument. Monkey isn’t allowed to experience love himself, but he can’t bear to see Joker and Zixia like this, so he blows up a cloud of dust to distract the spectators, and then momentarily takes control of Joker’s body, making him kiss Zixia. Joker and Zixia make up, ready to live happily ever after. Zixia glances at Monkey King as he turns away with strange gait, wondering who he is. Monkey walks away with regret, he looks at the couple the last time before sweeping all of his last memory about her out of his mind and continues onward in the Journey to the West.

Iron Man 2 [2010] Download

Plot

Russian television shows Stark Industries CEO Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) revealing his identity as Iron Man to the world. Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), whose father, Anton Vanko (Yevgeni Lazarev), has just died, sees this and begins building a similar weapon.

Six months later, Stark has used his Iron Man armor to help maintain world peace. He re-institutes the Stark Expo in Flushing Meadows to continue his father Howard's legacy. Senator Stern (Garry Shandling) demands that Stark turn over the Iron Man technology to the government. Stark refuses, claiming that foreign nations and business competitors are decades away from successfully recreating his achievements, and that the armor is in fact his own property.

The palladium core in the arc reactor that keeps Stark alive and powers the armor is slowly poisoning him, and he has failed to find a substitute. Growing increasingly despondent and reckless due to his impending death, and choosing not to tell anyone about his condition, Stark appoints his personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) CEO of Stark Industries, and replaces her with Stark employee Natalie Rushman (Scarlett Johansson).

Vanko attacks Stark while racing at the Circuit de Monaco, using an arc reactor of his own powering whip-like energy weapons. Stark defeats Vanko with the aid of his portable briefcase armor. He learns that Vanko is the son of his father's old partner, Anton Vanko. Anton collaborated with Howard on the first arc reactor, but was deported to his native Soviet Union following his attempts to profit from the technology and died in poverty, explaining Vanko's desire for revenge on the Stark family. Rival defense contractor Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) fakes Vanko's death and recruits him to perfect a line of armored combat suits to upstage Stark.

At what he believes is his last birthday party Stark gets drunk while using the Iron Man armor, forcing his friend, Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), to intervene. Rhodes dons Stark's Mark II armor and after battling him, delivers the armor to the military. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D., approaches Stark, revealing Rushman as undercover agent Natasha Romanoff and that Howard Stark was a S.H.I.E.L.D. founder that Fury knew personally. Fury gives him some of his father's old material; a hidden message in the diorama of the 1974 Stark Expo proves to be a diagram of the structure of a new element. With the aid of his computer J.A.R.V.I.S. (voiced by Paul Bettany), Stark synthesizes it. Vanko reveals to Stark that he is still alive and seeking revenge so Stark uses the untested element, removing his dependency on the palladium.

At the Expo, Hammer unveils Vanko's armored drones, led by Rhodes in a heavily weaponized version of the Mark II armor. Stark arrives in his new armor to warn Rhodes, but Vanko seizes control of both the drones and Rhodes' armor and attacks Iron Man. Hammer is arrested while Stark's bodyguard Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and Romanoff attempt to capture Vanko. He escapes, but Romanoff returns control of the Mark II armor to Rhodes.

After defeating his drones Stark and Rhodes confront Vanko himself, now in a new, very powerful suit of armor. Neither can match Vanko, but Vanko is ultimately defeated when they fire repulsor rays at each other, causing a large explosion. With his suit too damaged to continue the fight Vanko ignites his suit and his drones' self-destruct mechanisms, apparently killing himself in the process. Stark saves Potts from the exploding drones' remains. Potts quits as CEO, but she and Stark kiss.

At a debriefing, while showing news footage of the Hulk's rampage, Fury informs Stark that while Iron Man is a suitable candidate for the "Avengers Initiative", he himself is not. Stark agrees to be a consultant if Senator Stern presents himself and Rhodes with their medals for bravery.

Synopsis

PTPTN Baru Berasaskan Ujrah

Ada yang bertanya saya berkenaan pengumuman rasmi PTPTN yang mengkhabarkan pertukaran konsep pinjaman sebelum ini yang berasaskan caj perkhidmatan (peratusan tertentu disandarkan kepada jumlah pinjaman dan baki setiap bulan) kepada konsep ujrah.

Konsep ini telah diluluskan oleh Jawatnkuasa Fatwa Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Hal Ehwal Ugama Islam pada 28 Julai 2008.

Atas dasar itu, saya boleh mengucapkan tahniah kepada PTPTN atas perubahan terbaru yang dilakukan. Walaupun konsep baru tersebut masih boleh dibincangkan, namun ia adalah lebih baik berbanding konsep caj perkhidmatan sebelum ini yang tidak disahkan oleh mana-mana majlis Syariah, selain kejelasan unsur riba dalam kiraannya.

Apa yang paling menonjol dalam kiraan terbaru adalah perbezaaan peratusan yang dikenakan kepada pelajar, dahulu dikenakan 3 % dari jenis kiraan ‘reducing balance' atau 3 % dari hutang berbaki yang jelas adalah RIBA, ia juga sama dengan cara kiraan riba oleh bank-bank konvensional.

Dengan konsep ujrah sekarang, caj telah diturunkan kepada 1 % dan ia pula bersifat flat dan tidak lagi dikira berdasakan baki bulanan pinjaman. Secara umumnya, ia jauh lebih murah berbanding cara kiraan sebelum ini. Menurut statisik perbandingan dari petikan akhbar berikut (buka halaman 15 ), penurunan adalah sebanyak 47 - 48 %.

UJRAH

Untuk pengetahuan pembaca, ‘Ujrah' adalah perkataan di dalam bahasa arab yang membawa erti "upah". Ia mempunyai kaitan dengan istilah ‘Ijarah' iaitu sewa, kerana ijarah juga ada satu jenis dari upah, iaitu upah atas manfaat yang diberikan. Contohnya, sewaan rumah, beerti upah atas manfaat rumah yang disewakan. Ujrah juga boleh diletakkan di atas sesuatu tugas dan kerja, lalu ia dinamakan ‘gaji' bagi para pekerja tetap di institusi awam dan swasta. Ia juga boleh tergolong dalam nama ‘komisyen' jika diletakkan kepada sebuah kontrak wakil (agency) seperti seorang broker tanah yang mengutip upah atau komisyen atas usahanya menjuakan tanah pemilik. Semua konsep ujarh dalam setiap kontranya mempunyai tatacara dan syaratnya agar ia dianggap sah dan halal di sisi syara'.

Justeru, apakah perbezaaan di antara ‘upah' yang halal dan ‘caj perkhidmatan' yang haram?

Secara dasarnya, ia boleh jadi sama dan boleh berbeza bergantung kepada cara dan formula kira-kiranya. Melihat kepada formula kiraan antara keduanya, Alhamdulillah terdapat perbezaan tetapi ada yang masih sama.

YANG BERBEZA

Bagi konsep ujrah yang terbaru, formula kiraannya adalah :

Upah = Jumlah pembiayaan diluluskan x kadar upah x tempoh bayaran balik

Contoh, jika sekiranya pelajar meminjam sebanyak RM21,000, maka kadar upah adalah satu peratus setahun, UNTUK TEMPOH BAYARAN SEMULA 10 TAHUN, maka jumlah upah adalah:-

Upah = RM21,000 x 1% x 10 (tahun)

= RM 2,100

Maka jumlah keseluruhan yang akan ditanggung atau perlu dibayar balik oleh pelajar dalam tempoh 10 tahun adalah : RM21,000 + RM 2,100 = RM23,100

Jumlah ini jauh lebih kecil berbanding cara kiraan caj perkhidmatan yang akan menghasilkan jumlah RM25,116 iaitu dengan nilai RM 4,116 jumlah caj perkhidmatan ribanya.

APA YANG SAMA DAN SEPATUTNYA BERBEZA JUGA

Walaupun tahniah diucapkan, pintu kritikan ilmiah, pembaikpulihan dan cadangan tidak tertutup semestinya, malah ia patut sentiasa digalakkan bagi mengembangkan kefahaman ilmu muamalat Islam.

Justeru, sekalipun cara kiraan ini kelihatan murah dan baik, serta TELAH disahkan oleh Jawatankuasa Fatwa Malaysia, cara kiraan ini tetap tidak berjaya menembusi piawaian hukum yang diputuskan oleh para ulama antarabangsa. Ini adalah kerana cara kiraannya masih terdapat yang sama dengan cara kiraan riba sebelum ini. Iaitu pada sandaran caj upah. Dahulu ia disandarkan kepada jumlah pinjaman, dalam konsep ujrah terbaru juga disandarkan kepada jumlah pinjaman.

Sekadar ingatan kembali, di dalam hukum Islam, pemberi pinjaman sama ada individu, institusi kewangan swasta atau kerajaan, TIDAK BOLEH mengenakan sebarang caj kewangan kepada peminjam khususnya dari jenis peratusan yang disandarkan kepada jumlah pemberian pinjaman. Berubah dengan berubahnya jumlah pemberian pinjam.

Namun cara kiraan yang diguna pakai oleh PTPTN 'ujrah' yang baru masih disandarkan kepada jumlah atau nilai pinjaman yang diberikan. Selain atas dasar kefahaman nas, para ulama antarabangsa melarangnya untuk mengelakkan caj upah ini menjadi helah kepada riba (helah ribawiyah) yang asalnya caj tambah kepada pinjaman kerana tempoh (time value of money). Kerana dari sudut konsep dan jurus pandangan ekonomi, kedua-dua jenis caj riba dan upah itu adalah sama. Jalan keluar yang paling kukuh adalah TIDAK MENJADIKAN jumlah pinjaman sebagai sandaran untuk mengira upah.

Menurut keputusan Majlis Fiqh Antarabangsa dan lain-lain majlis Shariah yang berautoriti tanpa kepentingan tertentu di mana-mana syarikat dan institusi kewangan di seluruh dunia, caj yang dibenarkan dikenakan kepada peminjam hanyalah kos sebenar yang lahir dari urusan pemberian pinjaman sahaja.Ia tiada kaitan dengan nilai pemberian pinjam.

Cara kiraan caj atau kos sebenar itu menurut ijtihad ulama antarabangsa adalah berdasarkan formula berikut[1]:-

Ujrah = Actual Administrative Expenses During The Year x 100

Average Asset During The Year

Untuk mendapatkan average asset during the period berikut formulanya :

Average asset = A1 + A2

Nota Keterangan

A 1 : Total asset at beginning of the period

A 2 : Total Asset at the end of the period

Cara inilah yang juga diiktiraf di Pakistan dan ulamanya, serta diamalkan bagi sebahagian jenis pinjaman di sana. Cara kiraan ini tidak meletakkan sebarang ikatan kepada jumlah pinjaman yang diberi. Ia lebih menepati ijtihad majoriti ulama sedunia.

KESIMPULAN

Apapun, yang pasti para pelajar Islam kini boleh menarik nafas lega kerana harga yang lebih murah dan kedua, ia TELAH disahkan oleh sekumpulan ulama Malaysia. Justeru, tiada lagi sebarang tanggungan spiritual yang harus mereka galas apabila mengambil pinjaman PTPTN. Saya peribadi, saya mengucapkan tahniah atas usaha dan kesungguhan untuk melakukan perubahan. Dan bagi Jawatankuasa fatwa yang meluluskan, kita harapkan ijtihad mereka diterima di sisi Allah, jika tidak dua pahala, satu pahala masih milik mereka inshaAllah.
